Information Concerning the Pension Protection Act and Rehabilitation Plan
Congress enacted the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA) to strengthen defined benefit plans such as the National Pension Fund.
In 2008 and 2009, NPF’s actuary certified that the NPF's funded status is Critical. PPA required the NPF Trustees to adopt a Rehabilitation Plan to
improve NPFs funded status over a 13-year rehabilitation period. The Rehabilitation Plan currently consists of two schedules: the Default Schedule and
Alternative Schedule which make changes in benefits and adjust contributions.
The Alternative Schedule requires additional contributions but preserves more benefits. The Default Schedule does not presently require
contribution increases and reduces more benefits.
